Motor City Kitty Empty
PostSubject: Motor City Kitty   Motor City Kitty EmptyTue May 21, 2013 5:40 pm

Hey all,
My name's Bri. I'm a Cleveland native currently residing in Columbus, OH, and I write a zine called Motor City Kitty. It's a perzine I've been self-publishing since 2004 with stories about my life- things like touring, being a lady & feminist in the DIY scene, struggling with mental health issues, being a survivor of sexual assault/verbal and sexual abuse, grief and loss. Plus lighter stuff, like how much I love My Chemical Romance.

You can read about the issues that are currently in print on my blog (click the "zines" tab) or 'like' my zine on Facebook for updates. Links to distros that carry my zines are on the blog page.

I am also an illustrator and do commissioned work for pay or trade. Examples of my work will soon be up on my blog. You can find information about requesting commissioned art from me there, too. Totally down to draw fliers, cover art, etc. for cheap/trade/free, so feel free to get in touch if you're ever in need of such things.

really cool Bri, self publishing since 2004 is quite a long time! I'm actually really curious to read what you write about in MCK. I must admit I'm a noob when it comes to zines/comics, but I've never had the proper introduction.

Haha oh yes, it's been a long time indeed. I actually started writing zines 4-5 years prior to that, but that's just how long I've been working on this one in particular! Maybe one day I'll get around to anthologizing it (as I'd like to do).

If you'd like copies of the zine, you can either order them from some of the distros I have listed here, or you can read up on the issues on that same page and then order them from me directly. I generally charge $3-5 sliding scale per zine, postage included. I can take Paypal or cash in the mail. Shoot me an email? missteenohio AT gmail DOT com.

And thanks for your interest! All of this applies to anyone else who would like to get copies of my zine as well!

P.S.- Jesse once approached me about doing something zine related for WMC? Perhaps we can discuss that via email as well? Very Happy

Bri, do you ever bring copies of your zines to shows? I know you aren't in Cleveland too often these days, but you should bring some should you find yourself up here!

Sometimes I'll have copies in my bag, but I never try to push them on people, especially since I can't afford to hand them out for free right now. I usually bring them when people ask me to. Next time I'm up and plan on going to a show, I'll be sure to bring some!

Thanks for the kind words, friends I love you

I also just set up an online portfolio of my artwork, if that interests anyone. Lots and lots of new and old stuff posted, including a few excerpts from my zine: briannadearest.tumblr.com

got your zines in the mail the other day Bri. thank you :-)

I read #17, which I really enjoyed. I just want to read more about your thoughts about feminism, white privilege, etc. Do you know any books or other good sources I can dig into?
